Management Sciences for Health (MSH) is a global leader (not for profit) in strengthening health systems in low and middle-income countries. It relies on some of the leading thinkers and managers in public health bridging the gap between knowledge and practice. We want to optimize the way we organize information for knowledge exchange, collaboration and elements of service delivery.

The principle focus of the role is to develop information architecture and user experience on our intranet and to contribute to its management. The role will also involve contribution to the development of enterprise-wide metadata.

The position is full-time, and can be based in Arlington, Virginia or Medford, Massachusetts. The role is within the Performance, Learning and Impact team.

Specific Responsibilities

Intranet Development (30%)

  • Eliciting business and functional requirements from our internal customers
  • Contributing to the development of the intranet interface with other systems
  • Developing materials to educate and support our customers
  • Establishing, promoting, and supporting standards for effective page and site design
  • Development of the intranet IA and user experience

Intranet Operations (25%)

  • Ensuring consistency and quality across all intranet communications and content, either directly or through Content Managers
  • Maintaining effective and efficient control of systems admin policies and activities
  • Supporting, educating and listening to the network of Authors and Content Managers across MSH
  • Elements of analytics/reporting, training, support and promotion to achieve the above

MSH IA Development (40%)

  • Supporting the design of an effective information architecture for MSH (currently through an active role in the EDM program), incl.:
    • Contributing to development of a metadata framework for the organization
    • Contributing to information management policy, process and guidance
    • Contributing to compliance, and document and records management
  • Engaging staff in the development process drawing on standard tools and practices

General Support (5%)

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Architecture, Information Science, Library Science, Web Design, HCI or equivalent experience

  • 4 years of relevant and related experience with a BA, 2 years with an MA

  • At least 3 years' experience developing user experience and information architecture

Preferred

  • Minimum 4 years' experience of organizational information architecture projects, preferably including:
    • Experience developing, implementing and maintaining the IA and design of large and complex web sites (preferably intranets)
    • Championing user experience in design through the application of standard UX tools and approaches Metadata development (the process and the content)
    • Compliance and records management

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong familiarity with the interplay of web content management, social media and document repositories
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience of methods and tools for the development of effective information architecture
  • Project and change management skills for the effective implementation of governance, policy and information standards related to IA implementation
  • Knowledge of how to mine, analyze and present analytics (including Google)

  • Keyboard use, pulling drawers, lifting papers <10 lbs.
  • Travel up to 10%
