Overview

The Digital Media Specialist will collaborate with the Senior Manager of Online Communications and the other Communications Department staff in maintaining MSH’s robust strategic digital program, which supports MSH’s mission and engages a growing external audience. The Digital Media Specialist will create and develop video content, produce other digital media and manage MSH's photo library and video library. He/she will contribute to the editing and production of content for all of MSH’s online channels with emphasis on the MSH external website. He/she will also contribute to MSHs strategy for social media, online campaigns, photo editing, and/or graphic design. Advanced level of technical video production skills required.

Specific Responsibilities

Multimedia (45%)

  • Lead video strategy and video content production, from conception to preproduction, filming, and editing
  • Manage photo library
  • Manage staff photo submissions and requests
  • Catalogue and tag photos
  • Edit photos
  • Manage video library

Website (30%)

  • Manage content updating and development for msh.org website sections.
  • Maintain schedules of periodic review and content submission for website sections.
  • Stay abreast of current online communications and social media trends and develop strategies to expand MSH’s online presence.
  • Guide strategic content development projects.

General Communications (25%)

  • Contribute to the development of corporate communications content, including web and blog stories, campaign and fundraising communications, email messaging, social media accounts brochures, and fact sheets, as needed.
  • Provide social media coverage for events.
  • Provides strategic input to the Online Communications Function on multichannel online communications plans.
  • Manage, setup and configuration of microsites and other web properties for online campaigns, online annual reports, study tours, and conferences.
  • Draft and produce publishable material from a variety of submitted documents for multiple audiences.
  • Liaise with internal communications staff, and elicit and curate content from the field for external publication on the msh.org website.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a related field

Knowledge and Skills

  • Operating Canon 5d, Mark II camera for shooting video
  • Adobe Premier. Adobe Bridge, Photoshop, InDesign
  • Content Management Systems (especially Drupal)
  • Social media platforms (especially Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube)
  • Web development best practices
  • Strategic communications
  • Data management
  • Media cataloguing

Competencies

  • Video shooting and editing

Physical Demands

  • Availability to travel domestically and internationally as needed. Travel may include 1-3 domestic and/or international trips annually.
  • Keyboard use, pulling drawers, lifting papers <10lbs., etc.
  • Carrying and holding 2 lb professional DSLR camera.
  • Carrying lighting equipment, stands, tripods > 10lbs
